Toys Museum

On 23 April 2005, the first and the only private Toys museum was opened by a Turkish poet and author Mr. Sunay Akin.

In 1990, Sunay Akin noticed a toy museum in Nurnberg-Germany. He then proceeded to lay a foundation of the Istanbul Toy Museum with a toy horse that he had purchased from an antique shop in Germany. Over the next 15 years, he expanded his collection and had collected about 7000 antique toys as at that time. In the meantime, he has made some serious efforts to convert the historical villa, which belongs to his family, into a comfy museum. The four-floor museum is located in Goztepe, Istanbul. Sunay Akin has 4000 toys which are on display in this museum. The oldest of the toys is the miniature violin which was manufactured in 1917 in France. Among other items in his extensive collection, are tin toys from Germany, Porcelain dolls and a doll made in the United States in the 1820s.

The interior décor and the displays in the museum were arranged by a professional stage designer. They have been arranged in such a way that each room resembles a different theatre stage. For example, when you enter the museum and check into the gallery of space toys, you will notice shinning starts overhead and the miniature train sets which are exhibited in a genuine train compartment.
